Physical Therapy Services & Treatments
Offered at ORS Ann Arbor

ORS has brought its award-winning physical therapy to Ann Arbor and now offers the best physical therapy in West Ann Arbor. Services & treatments offered at this west Ann Arbor physical therapy clinic include…

Manual Therapy in Ann Arbor

ORS is known for its manual therapy techniques, and ORS Ann Arbor Physical Therapy is no different. Hands-on manual therapy is the mainstay physical therapy treatment, and our Ann Arbor physical therapists are well-trained in this treatment. Manual therapy is a hands-on intervention that focuses on releasing the restriction or impairment of any particular region of the body. Some of the manual therapy techniques used by our Ann Arbor physical therapists include:

  • Therapeutic Massage

  • Graston Technique

  • Passive Range of Motion

  • Vestibular Rehabilitation

  • Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization

Manual therapy treatments are used when patients present with a prognosis benefiting from improved tissue extensibility, increased range of motion, induced relaxation, mobilization of soft tissue and joints, decreased pain, and reduction of soft tissue swelling or inflammation, among others.

Vestibular Therapy in Ann Arbor

Vestibular therapy in Ann Arbor improves the brain’s ability to control eye alignment, movement, focus, and visual processing along with the inner ear when stimulated. Visual and balance skills are reinforced through repetition and integrated with cognitive/motor skills. Both of our physical therapists in Ann Arbor are skilled in treating patients with vestibular prognoses.

Dry Needling in Ann Arbor

Both of our physical therapists in Ann Arbor are certified in dry needling, offering this unique manual therapy treatment to patients with a doctor’s approval. Dry needling in Ann Arbor can be included as part of an individualized physical therapy treatment plan with the goal of releasing or inactivating trigger points to relieve pain or improve range of motion.

Myofascial Decompression (Cupping) in Ann Arbor

Most manual therapy techniques utilized in physical therapy are compressive in nature (soft tissue mobilization, myofascial release, joint mobilization, Graston Technique), but myofascial decompression works in the decompression of adhesions - reducing inhibitions of fluids and nutrient exchange. It is effective in decreasing stiffness and pain, improving tissue health, and increasing mobility.

Decompression can be useful in the treatment of chronic overuse injuries such as bursitis, tendonitis, tendonosis, and other myofascial pain syndromes (low back pain, mid-back pain, neck pain, elbow pain, shoulder pain, etc.) ORS Ann Arbor physical therapists are trained in MFD/cupping treatments.

Pediatric Physical Therapy

Orthopaedic Rehab Specialists Ann Arbor Physical Therapy offers gentle treatments to help children with many types of physical challenges. We work with pediatric orthopedic patients ages 0-18 and those over 18 years with acquired disabilities.

Children who benefit from pediatric physical therapy include those whose prognoses include a need for improved range of motion, relief from and management of pain, improved balance and coordination, developed cardiopulmonary endurance, and building or rebuilding muscle strength.

TMJ Dysfunction Therapy

Temporomandibular joint disorder, or dysfunction, (TMD) is a common condition that limits the natural functions of the jaw, such as opening the mouth and chewing. In Ann Arbor, our physical therapists are skilled in physical therapy for TMJ. Physical therapy examination seeks to evaluate active and passive mobility of the TMJ and surrounding soft tissue structures. TMD can often be the result of spinal and mandibular joint/soft tissue hypomobility. Our Ann Arbor physical therapists help people with TMD ease pain, regain normal jaw movement, and lessen daily stress on the jaw.
