All The New And Returning Pokémon In Pokémon Scarlet & Violet (2022)

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are the newest Pokémon games on the block, and the first new mainline entry in the series since Pokémon Sword and Shield came out in November 2019. Scarlet and Violet will be out later this year — the 18th November, 2022, to be exact — and they're both based around the Iberian Peninsula, so expect a lot of Spanish and Portuguese cultural references.

Here are all the new Pokémon we know about so far:

New Pokémon

Sprigatito

Sprigatito stats at a glance:

  • Category - Grass Cat Pokémon
  • Type - Grass
  • Height - 1'4"
  • Weight - 9lbs.
  • Ability - Overgrow

Sprigatito is a combination of "sprig" — like, uh, a plant — and "gatito", the Spanish for "kitten" or "small cat". He is a small cat, and he is grass-type. He's 1'4" tall, 9 lbs, and his ability is Overgrow. We also know that he is capable of photosynthesis, and he has a special move that "releases a sweet aroma" to make opponents lose their will to battle.

Fuecoco

Fuecoco stats at a glance:

  • Category - Fire Croc Pokémon
  • Type - Fire
  • Height - 1'4"
  • Weight - 21.6lbs.
  • Ability - Blaze

Fuecoco is a tiny lad known as the "Fire Croc Pokémon", and his name comes from the Spanish "fuego", meaning fire, and "cocodrilo", a crocodile. He's supposed to look like a chili pepper, but we think he looks like an apple. He's fire-type, obviously, 1'4" tall, 21.6 lbs (he's a heavy boy!) and he has the ability Blaze. His special move is the ability to absorb heat through his scales, and convert them into fire energy.

Quaxly

Quaxly stats at a glance:

  • Category - Duckling Pokémon
  • Type - Water
  • Height - 1'8"
  • Weight - 13.4lbs.
  • Ability - Torrent

Quaxly is the last of the three starter Pokémon. He's the water-type Duckling Pokémon, the tallest of the three at 1'8" tall, 13.4 lbs, and with the ability Torrent. His signature move is some kind of leg-related one, we suspect, as the official website states that "in battle, it kicks its opponents swiftly and repeatedly."

Pawmi

Pawmi stats at a glance:

  • Category - Mouse Pokémon
  • Type - Electric
  • Height - 1'
  • Weight - 5.5lbs.
  • Ability - Static / Natural Cure

Pawmi is an electric-type Mouse Pokémon (sounds familiar) who stands at just 1 foot tall, and weighs a tiny 5.5 lbs. He's one of the Pokémon used by your friend, Nemona, with the ability Static or Natural Cure. He can generate electricity by rubbing his cheeks, and we officially think that Game Freak has run out of ideas. He's VERY cute though, so it's hard to care.

Lechonk

Lechonk stats at a glance:

  • Category - Hog Pokémon
  • Type - Normal
  • Height - 1'8"
  • Weight - 22.5lbs.
  • Ability - Aroma Veil / Gluttony

Lechonk is another of Nemona's Pokémon, a combination of lechon (pork) and chonk (like, chonky. Chunky. He's fat). He's a normal-type Hog Pokémon, 1'8" tall, and a whopping 22.5 lbs, with the ability Aroma Veil (which repels bug Pokémon) or Gluttony. The website says that he "may appear fat at first glance, but in reality, the Pokémon’s body is mostly muscle built by constantly walking around in search of food." Awww.

Smoliv

Smoliv stats at a glance:

  • Category - Olive Pokémon
  • Type - Grass/Normal
  • Height - 1'
  • Weight - 14.3lbs.
  • Ability - Early Bird

Smoliv, the last of Nemona's Pokémon, is — get this — a small olive. We love him. He's a dual grass and normal-type Olive Pokémon, 1' tall, 14.3 lbs (probably due to the olive pit), and he has the ability Early Bird. Much like a camel, Smoliv stores nutrients in the form of oil in the fruit on its head, so he can go for a week without eating or drinking. The oil can also be used as a weapon, but mostly to buy this scaredy-olive time to run away.

Cetitan

Cetitan stats at a glance:

  • Category - Terra Whale Pokémon
  • Type - Ice
  • Height - 14'9"
  • Weight - 1,543.2lbs.
  • Ability - Thick Fat/Slush Rush

Cetitan is a huge, white-and-pink Pokémon whose colossal size and weight instantly ranks him as one of the biggest Pokémon of all time (the heaviest Pokémon is Celesteela, at 2,204.4lbs or 999.9kg). He's a land whale, with strong muscles, thick blubber, and a horn that can freeze its surroundings. We think he looks a bit like a fat Latias.

Paldean Wooper

Paldean Wooper stats at a glance:

  • Category - Poison Fish Pokémon
  • Type - Poison/Ground
  • Height - 1'4"
  • Weight - 24.3lbs.
  • Ability - Poison Point/Water Absorb

Paldean Wooper is our first regional variant — a Wooper covered in "poisonous film". His official description states that "in ancient times, Wooper lived underwater in the Paldea region. But it seems after losing in a struggle for territory, they began living in bogs on land," further reinforcing the past/future theme that Scarlet and Violet is going for. Also, we appreciate the neat touch to his design that his... whiskers (?) look like the international symbol for "poison" — crossed bones.

The description also says that "you may see poisoned Pokémon in areas where these Wooper live," which sounds like Scarlet and Violet may introduce wild battles with Pokémon that have pre-existing status effects. Cool!

Fidough

Fidough stats at a glance:

  • Category - Puppy Pokémon
  • Type - Fairy
  • Height - 1'
  • Weight - 24lbs.
  • Ability - Own Tempo

Fidough is a charming little pupper made of bread. The official Pokémon website describes him thusly:

"Fidough’s moist, smooth skin has elastic qualities and is both firm and soft at the same time. When these Pokémon become excited, they intimidate their opponents by puffing up their bodies to appear bigger.

Fidough ferments things in its vicinity using the yeast in its breath. Said yeast is useful for cooking, so this Pokémon has been protected by people since long ago."

Wow! Gross!

Cyclizar

Cyclizar stats at a glance:

  • Category - Mount Pokémon
  • Type - Dragon/Normal
  • Height - 5'3"
  • Weight - 138.9lbs.
  • Ability - Shed Skin

Well, this one looks a bit similar to some other Pokémon, doesn't it? Cyclizar is a little green bike lizard who is said to have lived with humans in many households since ancient times. People riding Cyclizar are fairly common, and they can sprint (drive?) over 70mph! Pretty fast then. Its thick tail and head help with the impact and shock of running so fast, and they like carrying humans because it keeps them warm. Aww!

Of course, its bike-riding features, tyre-like design, and the fact it's a lizard have many comparing it to Scarlet & Violet's box art legendaries. But Cyclizar's most interesting feature, for now, is Shed Tail — a new move for the upcoming 9th generation that allows the 'mon to shed its tail to create a decoy, using its own HP.

Grafaiai

Grafaiai stats at a glance:

  • Category - Toxic Monkey Pokémon
  • Type - Poison/Normal
  • Height - 2'4"
  • Weight - 60lbs.
  • Ability - Unburden / Poison Touch

Revealed through a series of tweets, Grafaiai is one dextrous fellow! This nocturnal monkey makes colourful marks throughout the Paldea region. It licks its fingers to cover them in poisonous liquid, which it then uses to pain patterns on trees, rocks, and whatever else it fancies! It uses this to trap its Bug-type prey, which are attracted by the poison's sweet scent.

The colour of the saliva depends on what colour berries it's eaten — we're not really sure we want to know what it's eaten or why its saliva is bright blue, to be honest! But that poison isn't just used to paralyse insects — it's also used to immobilise predators. In fact, when in danger, Grafaiai's poison can become so concentrated that its victim will be out of action for three days. That's a monkey we don't want to mess with.

Armarouge

Armarouge stats at a glance:

  • Category - Fire Warrior Pokémon
  • Type - Fire/Psychic
  • Height - 4'11"
  • Weight - 187.4lbs.
  • Ability - Flash Fire

Armarouge is a bulky lad who is dressed in armour from a "distinguished warrior", whatever that means. He's a Fire/Psychic type, which means he's one of an extremely elite group — the only other one is Delphox. He's got really high defense stats, and a special Fire-type move called Armor Cannon, which lowers Armarouge’s Defense and Sp. Defense stats in exchange for power.

Exclusive to Pokémon Scarlet.

Ceruledge

Ceruledge stats at a glance:

  • Category - Fire Blades Pokémon
  • Type - Fire/Ghost
  • Height - 5'3"
  • Weight - 137.7lbs.
  • Ability - Flash Fire

Ceruledge is a person-shaped Pokémon with swords for hands. Like his counterpart Armarouge, he's also wearing armour, except his is apparently "steeped in grudges". His unique move is Bitter Blade, a Fire-type physical move that "gathers the lingering regrets of the fallen" to deal damage, and heal Ceruledge half of the damage taken.

Exclusive to Pokémon Violet.

Klawf

Klawf stats at a glance:

  • Category - Ambush Pokémon
  • Type - Rock
  • Height - 4'3"
  • Weight - 174.2lbs
  • Ability - Anger Shell/Shell Armor

Klawf has a lot going on: Rotating eyeballs, the ability to cling onto cliffs upside down, and massive pinchy claws that can grow back if lost. The most interesting thing about Klawf, though, is the new ability he brings to the table: Anger Shell, which triggers when Klawf reaches half HP. This lowers the Defense and Sp.Def stats, but raises Attack, Sp. Atk, and Speed.

Wiglett

Wiglett stats at a glance:

  • Category - Garden Eel Pokémon
  • Type - Water
  • Height - 3'11"
  • Weight - 4lbs
  • Ability - Gooey/Rattled

This Diglett-looking Pokémon was revealed during a fake Webinar from The Pokémon Company, and then given its own trailer the following day! Despite looking like Gen I's mole Pokémon, Wiglett isn't a Paldean form but a completely different species. Apparently, this little eel has an exceptional sense of smell and can pick up scents from over 60 feet away. This comes in handy when it sniffs out other Pokémon, so it can hide away. What does its body look like, though? No one knows!

Farigiraf

Farigiraf stats at a glance:

  • Category - Long Neck Pokémon
  • Type - Normal/Psychic
  • Height - 10'6"
  • Weight - 352.7lbs
  • Ability - Gooey/Rattled
  • Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Reveals Farigiraf, The Evolution Of Girafarig

It's finally happened! Johto's own little giraffe learned how to evolve! Farigiraf, as much as it's a mouthful to say and spell, retains its predecessor's palindromic name, but its tail has finally taken it over. Now two brains have become one, making the giraffe's psychic powers even more intense. Not only that, but the tail-head (head of the tail? head?) is thick, Farigiraf has good defensive stats and also packs a bit of a punch. The force of its head is meant to be able to crush steel, even! Beware, Skarmory.

Bellibolt

Bellibolt stats at a glance:

  • Category - EleFrog Pokémon
  • Type - Electric
  • Height - 3'11"
  • Weight - 249.1lbs
  • Ability - Electromorphosis/Static
  • Bellibolt The Electric Frog Is The Newest Addition To Pokémon Scarlet And Violet

The Levincia Gym Leader's ace, Bellibolt is a big frog with an even bigger jolt of electricity. It generates this by expanding and contracting its belly, and also discharges it from the bumps on its head — no, they're not eyes, really. It looks like it's pretty slow too, as it's prone to being attacked first. And most of its noises at night come from its...stomach? Well, it's just hungry. Good thing it likes a sandwich or two.

Koraidon & Miraidon

Koraidon (left) is the first of the two legendaries, which players of Pokémon Scarlet will get to meet. Not much is known about Koraidon, but according to Pokéjungle, "korai" means "ancient" in Japanese. He looks dragon-type, at least, maybe with a dual fighting or fire type.

Miraidon (right) is the legendary for Pokémon Violet, and Pokéjungle says that "mirai" means "future" in Japanese — and he certainly looks the part, because he looks like a dragon made out of car parts. Perhaps dragon/electric type?

The latest trailer confirms that Miraidon and Koraidon will be rideable as motorbikes, flying motorbikes, and sea motorbikes. Potentially, this means that we'll be able to get the legendaries very early on in the game. And they may have more forms to come, as their description says that "it seems Koraidon and Miraidon have even more forms than those we’ve already discovered—these Pokémon are capable of changing their forms to better suit what they’re doing or what terrain they’re traveling over."

Here's some info on their various forms from the Pokémon website:

Sprinting Build Koraidon

It may look like a motorcycle, but it uses its powerful legs to run on all fours.

Drive Mode Miraidon

Miraidon accelerates by generating energy in its tail and throat, which transform into wheel-like rings.

Swimming Build Koraidon
Koraidon floats by making its throat into a flotation device, and it propels itself by spreading a membrane between its toes and paddling through the water.
Aquatic Mode Miraidon
Miraidon propels itself by rotating its rings, but it also uses the jet engines on its legs to move forward on the water.
Gliding Build Koraidon
Koraidon unravels the twisted tendrils on its head, forming wings to catch the air and glide through the skies.
Glide Mode Miraidon
The antennae on Miraidon’s head extend and spread a membrane of energy to glide through the skies.

Returning Pokémon

From the trailers, webinars, and additional screenshots, we know that we'll see these Pokémon returning (as well as presumably their entire evolutionary family):

We've absolutely missed some that were either too tiny or too brief in the trailers, so let us know in the comments if you saw one that's not on the list!

That's all we know so far, so stay glued to this channel to find out more Pokémon names, types, and designs as we find 'em!
